Synopsis

The Officer of the Watch on Plato was carrying out chart corrections at the time; Golden Bells II was trawling.

Action taken:

The Chief Inspector of Marine Accidents has written to the owners of Plato to highlight the following:

  • The proper allocation of the collision regulations with special regard to look-out procedures;

  • The obligation to report collisions to the coastal authorities and to render assistance to the other vessel involved until it is established that assistance is no longer required.

  • The Chief Inspector has also written to the owners of Golden Bells II with regard to:

  • Collision detection training;

  • Following of skipper's standing orders.
