Summary

On 28 September 2000, the RIB Atlantic Eagle capsized during a ‘white-water’ adventure trip in confused water in the vicinity of Horse Rock, between Ramsey Island and the Pembrokeshire coast. The twelve passengers and two crew were quickly recovered by another RIB in close proximity. Although many of the passengers were shaken and sustained minor injuries, none were seriously injured.

Safety Issues

  • the RIB was being operated in an area of very turbulent and confused water which was too severe for the coxswain to maintain control

Recommendations

Recommendations have been made to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and Thousand Island Expeditions.
