Justification for discontinuing investigation

Excalibur Fatal accident to a Stevedore during the unloading of a UK registered cargo vessel while alongside at Immingham Dock. 27/01/12 It was decided to discontinue this investigation as there were no lessons to be learned from the accident for future maritime safety.
Gran Canaria Car Contact between the ro-ro freight carrier Gran Canaria Car and no. 105 linkspan, Southampton. There were no injuries, but both the vessel and the linkspan were seriously damaged. 17/09/11 Investigation concluded after a preliminary assessment of the case. Safety issues identified are already being addressed by other recommendations and industry initiatives therefore no report has been produced.

Alleged collision between a fishing vessel and a container vessel. 17/3/07 BEA Mer, the French marine accident investigation body, has indicated that it will not be publishing a report into this accident. Because many of the safety issues identified during the French led investigation have been highlighted in a number of other investigations conducted by the MAIB, the Chief Inspector has decided that no further action is necessary and the case has been closed.
Fv Shark Foundering of fishing vessel off the coast of La Coruna 18/09/08 The MAIB investigation into the foundering of the Anglo-Spanish fishing vessel SHARK TN99 on 18 September 2008, has been discontinued. In reaching this decision, the Chief Inspector has carefully considered the circumstances and has concluded that the current separate investigation being conducted by the Maritime & Coastguard Agency's enforcement unit is likely to be more appropriate in this case.
